Foreword May 2001
This brochure is the first one of a series that will be published every month. During meetings we have had with various groups in our community it became clear to us that there was a lot of misunderstanding regarding how the police work. the citizens did not know what the possibilities were when they come to the police with a problem that they had.The purpose of this brochure and the others that will follow is to make things clear, give the necessary information and to promote a healthy relationship between the citizens and the police.
Reorganization of the police force
Since October, 1999 we have been in the process of reorganization. This reorganization emphasizes a more neighborhood-approach to crime on the island. This means that we are busy training police officers to be more effective and efficient in their district and in combating and preventing crime. The process has been a very slow one, but we are positive that we will reach our goals.
Business plan
Since January, 2000 we are serving our community by utilizing a business plan (with a duration of three years) that we made for our organization. One of the main points of our business plan is the working together of the community, other government agencies, and the police in a "justice chain", to reduce crime on our still beautiful island of Bonaire. Working together is the only way the whole community can benefit in the fight against crime. In our next edition we will give more information about our business plan.
